Catherine Corey is an educator, family mental wellness advocate, and relationship coach. She is also a mother, step-mother, and grandmother.
Overwhelmed by life as a child, Catherine began a lifelong journey to discover tools that could transform loss and pain into opportunities for growth and healthier relationships.
After working with the local Sexual Assault Support Centre, she was encouraged to open her own coaching practice, and founded Spirit Walk in 1998. Her early work focused on trauma recovery, divorce recovery, and supporting children with behaviour challenges.
In 2006, when her teenage son experienced his first psychotic episode, Catherine became his advocate and found herself struggling to navigate a fragmented mental health and addictions system. Discouraged by the lack of recovery-oriented resources for families, she joined the Family Advisory Committee for the Addictions and Mental Health Network. There, she helped develop “From Rollercoaster to Recovery,” a guide for families trying to find their way through the local system, as well as initiatives like Recovery Connections and Recovery Academy.
Catherine’s determination to keep hope alive—and to help others learn from her challenges and grief—has opened new recovery pathways not only for her son, but for many other families.
Over the years, her niche has evolved, but her principles have not. She has supported sexual assault and abuse survivors, adults and children learning to regulate overwhelming emotions, and individuals rebuilding after divorce. Each of these roles has deepened her understanding of the stresses that can contribute to mental illness and addiction. Today, she is uniquely positioned to assist parents who want to help their children change the trajectory of their lives. She listens without judgment and meets families where they are—supporting, coaching, educating, and guiding them as they take their next steps toward healing.
